Before the rental begins, the vehicle host should prepare the car and verify that the valid registration, up-to-date inspection (if applicable) and proof of current insurance is in the vehicle and easily accessible. Also make sure all required lighting is functioning properly, including turn signals, brake lights, headlights and all other DOT-required lighting.
Once the host and renter arrive at the pre-arranged meeting place, the vehicle host should confirm the guest’s identification matches the booking request and that their license is not expired. Once confirmed, the host should open the DRIVESHARE app on their phone to begin the pre-rental check. The host will record all existing damage (if applicable) and document the initial fuel level and mileage. Both the renter and owner need to sign off on the app before the trip begins.
If the guest will be driving the car, we encourage hosts to take a test drive with the guest to ensure they are comfortable with the vehicle before handing over the keys. Be sure to schedule the day, time and location for the vehicle’s return.
At the rental’s end, the host will open the DRIVESHARE app and document any new damage (if applicable) and the final fuel level and mileage. Both the renter and owner need to sign off on the app at the end of the trip.
If the DriveShare app is not being used for the check-out/check-in process, use this pre-and post-rental car condition form before and after each rental, and be sure to capture before and after rental photos of the vehicle. In the event of a claim, a photocopy of the document with vehicle photos can be forwarded to support@driveshare.com once the trip is completed.
